Rockstar shooter Max Payne 3 has landed in first place on the U.K. All Format Charts following its debut last Friday.

The gritty sequel managed to beat Diablo III to the top spot; the sales gap between each title was around 8,000 units. The Xbox 360 version of the game took the lion’s share of sales at 58%, while the PlayStation 3 version scooped up 42%.

Furthermore, Max Payne’s latest outing topped Mass Effect 3 as the biggest release of the year so far. It also outsold its predecessor by 10-1, which was released way back in October 2003.

Elsewhere, FIFA Street has a kick about at three, while Sniper Elite V2 drops to four and FIFA 12 sits at five.
