Dead or Alive 5 won't have paid DLC characters

Dead or Alive 5 developer Team Ninja has said it has no plans to offer paid DLC characters for the hotly-anticipated brawler.

Speaking with VideoGamer, studio boss Yosuke Hayashi made it clear he’s no fan of selling extra fighters post-launch, labelling the process as unfair to those who haven’t bought new characters.

“We have no plans to sell characters as downloadable content,” said Hayashi-san.

“We don’t feel that it’s right for fighting games. We feel like this is a kind of sport, and you don’t change the rules for sports. Everybody plays by the same rules. You don’t have a 14-player soccer game versus an 11-player soccer game. That’s just not fair.”

“It’s a similar thing to if certain people have all these characters and others don’t. It makes it an unfair game, and we don’t think that’s the right way to go for fighting games.”

Elsewhere, the developer observed that making the character roster a balanced affair is tough enough as it is without offering extra combatants some players may or may not have.

Dead or Alive 5 will be punching and kicking its way onto PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2012.

Meh...i've got nothing else to do so why not.

I love his "loyalty to gamers" act but it's got holes in it.  First off, it's only "unfair" if the paid characters are broken and imbalanced in comparison to the others. Also his analogy about uneven soccer teams did not apply to this WHATSOEVER. No idea where he was going with that one lmao.

It's awesome that they dont want to release paid dlc but face it, it's only because DOA usually has one of the smallest character rosters in the fighting game genre. They wont be making many more new characters because they're lazy and never change much with their games, and so they basically know they don't really have enough side crap to distract people with to buffer DLC characters and still charge $60 for the game.

Oh and they want more first day purchases.

    The end.
