Kaz Hirai steps down from SCE chairman position

Kazuo Hirai announced his retirement from his representative director and chairman positions on the Sony Computer Board.

Though Hirai has retired from his full position on the board, he has said that he will still serve in a part-time role on the SCE board. Along with Hirai, Howard Stinger, chairman of the Sony Corporation, has also retired from his part-time role on the board.

Hiroshi Kawano, the preident of SCE Japan has now been appointed on the board to take his place.

    I love, and will dearly miss, Kaz Hirai if this means we'll be seeing less of him.

    Since he's taken over this position, we've seen Sony do what it should do at E3: focus on games. He omitted 3D from this year's presentation, which I think was a very strong move on Sony's part.

    Hopefully, we'll still see enough of Kaz.

    IT'S NOT A DEMOTION.

    The guy took over Hower Stringer's job so now he's head of ALL of Sony... it doesnt make sense for him to technically be his OWN boss. He's simplifying his roll so that he can consentrate on running Sony, not just the videogame depatrment.
