Resident Evil movie series could be coming to an end

Sony’s Resident Evil movie franchise is among the most successful videogame adaptations to date. Indeed, while the films have taken a battering by critics since the series’ inception in 2002, the movies have generated millions of dollars at the box office, with the latest entry, Resident Evil: Afterlife, scooping $296 million worldwide.

However, despite their financial success, it appears that writer/director Paul W.S. Anderson is looking to tie up the story of Alice and her battle against the nefarious Umbrella Corporation.

Addressing a crowd during a panel for the forthcoming Resident Evil: Retribution at Comic-Con, Anderson said he was thinking about wrapping up the franchise at some point. However, this is unlikely to happen until the sixth film at the earliest.

Resident Evil: Retribution is due out in cinemas in September 2012, and sees Alice (played by Milla Jovovich) teaming up with newcomers Leon S. Kennedy, Ada Wong and Barry Burton.
