In a startling bit of late evening news, PSU has received word that a closed beta for PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale will be going live in North America tomorrow, with another beta date planned in August.

Select members of the PlayStation Network - criteria has yet to be revealed - are receiving email invitations for a closed beta period that, according to IGN, begins on Friday, July 27 at noon and runs until Saturday, July 28 at 11:59 PM PT. Beta access comes alongside access to an exclusive forum where participants can discuss issues with the game and leave feedback for developer SuperBot Entertainment.

The emails in question have the following to say:

"Here you’ll be among the first to experience the iconic characters of the PlayStation universe coming together in an epic fighting game! We’re very excited to show you the game and all the fantastic features we’ve been working on and we can’t wait to see everyone go all-out in battle to see who’s truly the best!"

In addition:

"The focus of this private beta will be to stress-test the server's load capability and in-game features. Please note that the PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale close beta is a testing program for a work in progress. The game you play today is not indicative of the quality of the final product or its ultimate performance, frame rate, effects, or feature set."

A second closed beta period will run from Friday, August 3 at noon until Saturday, August 4 at 11:59 PM PT. Don't worry if you don't receive an exclusive email invitation; it's highly likely that PlayStation Plus members will get to enjoy beta access later in the month of August.
