32 games entered, but only 16 could remain. The first round of match-ups in our quest to crown the Best PS3 Game Ever was a no-holds-barred, bloody brawl that resulted in some extremely close margins. In at least one case, the difference came down to a single vote!
And in the end, it was your votes that mattered, your votes that decided which 16 games would advance in our tournament.
Round 2 is coming, and things certainly won't get easier. We've narrowed the field considerably, and what you'll see on Monday morning is the absolute best of the best - the top 16 PS3 games, as decided by the PSU community, squaring off to advance further in the competition. All bets are placed, and it's almost time to enter the big leagues.
For now, take a look at all of our Round 1 match-ups below to see which games came out on top, and how narrow the victories were. Remember, Round 2 voting will begin on Monday, July 30, at approximately 8 AM ET.
Let us know what you think of these winners in the comments below! Did your favorites escape elimination? How are your official contest entries holding out?

I knew God of War III vs. Red Dead Redemption would be a close one, it was hard for me to predict and vote myself, but luckily God of War won as that was in my Final Four. Portal 2 vs. Killzone 2 was tricky too; could you disclose the exact number of votes each got please? It would be more interesting if you noted the number of votes each game got rather than just displayed a percentage.
Also, the image you displayed is wrong. It shows Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time going through although LittleBigPlanet 2 attained over 71% of the votes.

@1, yeah o.O Which game actually won, Little Big Planet or R&C? I have a hard time believing R&C was preferred over LBP

@1 Thanks for the input. I'll update the article with vote counts. Suffice it to say, Portal 2 beat Killzone 2 by a single vote.
@1 and @3 - I'll fix the image as well. Thanks for pointing that out - LBP2 is indeed the winner here.

@5 In the event of a tie, we would probably have a heated, knuckle-flying, no-holds-barred brawl between PSU editors to decide who wins.
Nah... =) More likely, we would base it on Metacritic score.

@7 Haha, well Portal 2 is in my Final Four also, and it was so close that I forced my friend to sign in o vote for it! So that single vote put ot through! However, Portal's rated more highly on Metacritic anyway, so would probably have gone through regardless.
Speaking of Final Fours, were my predictions entered by the way? I posted them in the official thread before the deadline, but looking back I may have presented them in a rather confusing way (although the picture was there to clarify), and I'm unsure if they were actually recorded as I got no confirmation. Also, how are points allocated, is it 1 point for each correct prediction, allowing for a maximum total of 7?

@8 Don't worry, I notified anyone who's entry was invalid. You're good.
We'll post more specific info later this week, but for now, we're thinking: Final Four = 1 pt each, picking championship games = 2 pts each, and picking the Champion = 4.

@9 OK, thank you very much :) I've looked at all the predictions in the thread, and quite a few people put in the same predictions as one another, so I'm pleased that mine were unique - unless someone e-mailed the same predictions to you! By the way, what are your predictions yourself if you don't mind me asking?
Ah right, I thought it would be some sort of tiered system with more points being awarded for higher positions in the competition, however, wouldn't that make final scores a bit unfair? In order for a game to win it must pass through both the Final Four and Champion rounds - meaning you would get 7 points just for predicting the overall winner (4+2+1). Do you not think would make the final scores rather unbalanced?
