SOCOM developer Zipper Interactive may have closed its doors, but that doesn’t necessarily mean we’ve seen the last of the popular squad-based shooter franchise.
Speaking with OPM, Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) Worldwide Studios, adopted a ‘never say never’ mentality regarding SOCOM’s future, and acknowledged its continued popularity among fans.
“It's not done. We never definitely retire any franchise. It’s sometimes great to have a fresh look at the classics that we have," he said.
“We are launching a new Sly Cooper game this year after so many years. Never say never. I feel sorry for people who are longtime SOCOM fans, and there are many people who still play SOCOM 1 and SOCOM 2, especially those seem to be their favorites.”
The last SOCOM game was released back in 2011 and introduced PlayStation Move functionality to the series.
