Rumor: Leaked image shows new Prince of Persia

A mysterious screenshot has been posted on the official Prince of Persia forums, and while there isn't a great deal you can derive from one solitary screen, it hasn't stopped folk from speculating that a new Prince of Persia reboot is in the works.

The setting appears to be Middle Eastern which coincides with screenshots of a new Ubisoft game sent to a member of NeoGAF, which was due to be revealed at this year's E3. Also worth noting is the presence of 'DX11'. Direct X 11 is a technology not capable on current generation consoles, so could this be one of the first next generation games we will see?

It's been over two years since we last saw The Prince in action and personally I think a return is overdue -- what do you think? Let us know in the comments section below, and stay tuned for further information as we get it.

I'm a massive fan of the Prince of Persia series, and although I was skeptical at first, I loved the 2008 reboot. The Forgotten Sands was also a great game, however, I think the Sands of Time series should more or less be wrapped up by now, and I don't want them to milk it any more. It seems a bit silly to reboot it again, and I want the Sand of Time series to die. Personally, if they're going to carry on with Prince of Persia, I'd rather a sequel to the 2008 reboot (which this clearly isn't). Otherwise, I'd rather they produced a new IP altogether, but with similar gameplay - like a spiritual successor - which is what I'm hoping this is. If they manage to keep the fundamentals of the gameplay, but completely overhaul the system, producing an improved, more refined game, as well as placing this under the moniker of a brand new IP, I will be incredibly happy.

Long story short: don't milk the series, give us a spiritual successor!

I love PoP, but this doesn"t really look like a pOp game.  I hope they release a new one soon.

IMO, They should make a direct sequel to the 2008 PoP game, I really wasn't sure of it when they revealed it, but after playing it, I have to say that the 2008 game is by far the most distinct and enjoyable prince of persia game I have played. And this is coming from a person who still considers the Sands trilogy the finest trilogy ever made in any form of entertainment.

Assassin's Creed has already gone with the extremely realistic route, so the PoP games should move into the beautiful and euphoric realm of fantasy explored in the 2008 game. I don't want to see another sands game because even though the Forgotten Sands was good, the franchise is just getting too old.

Oh and a note to the editor : Microsoft's Direct X 11 has been used on PC games since Windows Vista. So it is in no way any indication that the game is "nex gen". It could simply be the PC version, as most games on PC these days support OpenGL (used by the ps3 I believe, not 100% sure) as well as Direct X 11.

As much as I love the PoP series I feel they should either make a sequel to the 2008 PoP or just stop making them before it becomes milked.
