Gamescom 2012: Sony hasn't abandoned 3D support

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) head honcho Jim Ryan has reaffirmed the company’s support for 3D technology.
The hardware giant had previously pushed the use of 3D in its products a great deal back in 2011 at E3 and Gamescom. However, the tech was conspicuously absent from Sony’s trade show offerings this year, leading many to question whether it had shifted focus.
However, this isn't the case., Ryan told CVG that “where it makes sense, 3D technology will be included in our games,” though feels the firm has already demonstrated it sufficiently in the past few years – hence why it wasn’t talked about at recent events.
“I wouldn’t read too much into its omission,” he said. “We spoke about it at E3 two years ago and everyone put their glasses on for the first time, and the next year we did the same and everyone did it again. Y’know, there comes a time when you don’t need to talk about it anymore.”
“Don’t read into the fact too much that we haven’t announced anything about 3D.”
How do you feel about 3D, PSU readers? Let us know in the comments section below.

A lot of people here were all "Sony have abandoned 3D!" yet a simple strole down the game isle shows a different story. it's not even just Sony who are advancing this trend either. Ubisoft have pledged to be one of the leading forces in 3D entertainment. I wouldn't be surprised if AC3 is 3D (this is almost a given). It's nice, I enjoy the added immersion I get from the tech, and it's only getting better in implementation.

@1... $50,000?? where are you buying your 3D TV's??
I have a 3D tv and I don't need a transmitter, I just put in a 3D compatible game or movie, throw on the glasses and I'm good to go.
As for putting it where it makes sense. I'm happy they are doing it that way cause not every game needs to have 3D.

A 3d tV is still too expensive to be a worthwhile investment. If it were a requirement that actually improved the experience like HD? Maybe it'd be an exciting thing but half the people out there cant even enjoy 3D without headaches and there are only a few circumstances where it's welcomed by the people who dont have an issue. The Mini 3D tv Sony released would be a nice option but it;s still expensive and the standalone HMD 3D glasses they made is still like 800 bucks making it possibly the cheapest way to enjoy 3D but again that's a ssuming it doesnt give you a head ache.

3D is a great idea. Ever since I bought into it - the level of immersion has gone from weak (Call of Duty Black Ops) to WOW! (Motorstorm Acopolypse).
With that said, any game that has 3D support gets the 1st and foremost consideration. Ubisoft had added to the immersion factor Ghost Recon future soldier, and that was certainly a hit. I played the crap out of that one...
So when warranted, its great to have it !! Keep it comming. I think Dead Space 3 should do it next...
