Gamescom 2012: Sony hasn't abandoned 3D support

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) head honcho Jim Ryan has reaffirmed the company’s support for 3D technology.

The hardware giant had previously pushed the use of 3D in its products a great deal back in 2011 at E3 and Gamescom. However, the tech was conspicuously absent from Sony’s trade show offerings this year, leading many to question whether it had shifted focus.

However, this isn't the case., Ryan told CVG that “where it makes sense, 3D technology will be included in our games,” though feels the firm has already demonstrated it sufficiently in the past few years – hence why it wasn’t talked about at recent events.

“I wouldn’t read too much into its omission,” he said. “We spoke about it at E3 two years ago and everyone put their glasses on for the first time, and the next year we did the same and everyone did it again. Y’know, there comes a time when you don’t need to talk about it anymore.”

“Don’t read into the fact too much that we haven’t announced anything about 3D.”
