Onimusha reboot in the works?

According to the latest issues of PSM3 UK (via CVG), developer Spark Unlimited has been tasked with rebooting an ‘adventure series’ for Capcom.

The magazine speculates that the franchise in question is Onimusha, the demonic hack-‘n-slash series that made its debut back in 2001 on PlayStation 2 with Onimusha: Warlords.

The game went on to spawn a number of sequels, culminating in 2006’s Dawn of Dreams. Since then the franchise has been put on hiatus, though has still managed to shift around 7.9 million copies worldwide.

Spark Unlimited is currently working on Lost Planet 3 for Capcom, and is also having a crack at the Ninja Gaiden franchise with a zombie-centric spin-off headed by Keiji Inafune.

Still, the company didn’t exactly get off to a great start back in 2007, when it debuted the critically-panned Turning Point: Fall of Liberty.

I love Onimusha! Still have every single one for PS2. Onimusha: Warlords was my 3rd PS2 game.

Turning Point was NOT the debut title of Spark Unlimited! They are most known for Call of Duty: Finest Hour (PS2), which reportedly is a damn fine game.

Samonoski and Jubai return?  I hope their "speculation" is correct because Onimusha kicks tail.  And Onimusha Blade Warriors kicks even more butt!!!

Couldn't be more excited if it really turns out to be Onimusha. Personally, I thought the series went from strength to strength- Dawn of Dreams was a true gem of a game, while the first Onimusha was a classic, mixing horror and samurai swordplay perfectly. Definitely one of the best series of games to hit the PS2, always preffered these over Devil May Cry!
