Rockstar has revealed that Grand Theft Auto V’s focus on multiple playable characters means gamers can take on the role of both the protagonist and antagonist.
The hotly-anticipated crime sequel allows gamers to hop between three criminals; Franklin, Michael and Trevor. As such, the trio will be able to work together by having the player switch between characters to tackle various objectives.
"Just at the conceptual level, the idea was three separate stories that you play in one game,” said Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser, during an interview with the New York Times.
"The next bit was, let's not have the stories intersect once or twice but have them completely interwoven. It felt like it was going to be a real narrative strength: you get to play the protagonist and the antagonist in the same story."
GTA V is set be Rockstar’s most ambitious open-world project to date, featuring a game world that is larger than GTA V, San Andreas and Red Dead Redemption combined. For all the latest information, check out our info blowout here.
GTA V is due out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in Spring 2013.
