The Medal of Honor franchise has been taken ‘out of rotation,’ Electronic Arts revealed during its Q3 financial call overnight.

Peter Moore, EA’s chief operating officer, confirmed that the publisher will no longer move forward with the military shooter series due to its poor performance at retail.

"The game was solid, but the focus on combat authenticity did not resonate with consumers," said Moore.

"Critics were polarised and gave the game scores which were frankly lower than deserved. This one is behind us now. We are taking Medal of Honor out of rotation and have to bring year-over-year continuity to our shooter offerings."

The executive attributed the game’s performance to “slowdown that impacted the entire sector,” in addition to its negative reception from critics and at retail.

Frank Gibeau, president of EA Games Label, stated “we're in a hit-driven business where it's about what you can build in a certain period of time and really deliver for the marketplace, and frankly we missed on Medal of Honor. And we take responsibility for that."

EA rebooted Medal of Honor in 2010, and followed up with Medal of Honor: Warfighter last October. While the first game didn’t do too shabby, Warfighter failed to set tills alight and was met with less-than-stellar reviews.
