Journey falls to Girl With The Dragon Tattoo in Grammy showdown

Austin Wintory's Grammy nomination for Journey's soundtrack was, and always will be, a landmark moment in gaming. Unfortunately, the subtle meanderings and sweeping power of Wintory's score wasn't enough to take home the Grammy award itself.

That honor, for Best Compilation Soundtrack For Visual Media, went to Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for their original soundtrack to Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. The news came earlier today - ahead of the 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards' live telecast - when Wintory tweeted that Reznor had won. Wintory graciously congratulated Reznor, but it didn't take long for Kellee Santiago - co-founder of thatgamecompany - to chime in for Wintory's defense: "just so you know, if I were there, I totally would have Kanye West-ed that for you."

Regardless of Journey's loss, to be nominated for a Grammy is a tremendous honor that will help cement video games as an artistic powerhouse in a world full of skeptics. Give us your thoughts on Journey's soundtrack - and the Grammy results - in the comments below.

I bought this game a long time ago, only played it for about 10 minutes. I'll have to spend some time and see what it is about - I enjoyed playing flower (the first video game I had my 4 year old daughter play, she's 8 now)

Not a good decision, the soundtrack for Journey is WAY better than Girl w/ a Dragon Tattoo, the GF will be disappointed.

Don't know the game or the film, but one thing is sure is that music in video games are really getting better every year, my fav music is MGS2 opening music. Video games now a days are real pieces of art, solid storys, excellent music, realistic graphiques/physiques/interaction with objects in the game. Personaly I think video games are more exciting than than in the 90's even though certain type of games should come back like beat-em all with 2 or 4 players on the same screen!

these awards ceremonies are just rich people showing off to get more coverage and new business, so the awards are just fake rewards just there to satiate people's egos to hope for an advantage later, it's all hypocrisy

I couldn't really comment on the "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" having a better soundtrack than Journey. As far as I'm concern Journey's soundtrack is one of the best soundtracks since MGS IMO.
