UPDATE: Polygon has obtained comment from an EA representative on Jorgensen's statements. According to EA's rep, Jorgensen meant to characterize a general trend of declining retail prices over the course of a console generation, and that he intended to use $59 and $49 as examples, not $69.99 and $59.00.
Original: At a Morgan Stanley investor webcast moments ago, Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen indicated that next-gen video games may retail for $69.99, $10 more than the current retail norm of $59.99.
Jorgensen was asked about a possible increase in retail costs for PS4 and Xbox 720 games and mentioned that such an increase has happened in every generation, followed by a slight decline in prices as each generation runs its course. In order to cover transitional costs for "Gen4" development, Jorgensen expects that next-gen video games will retail for $69.99 for some time, before the market dictates a slight decrease back to the current $59.99 standard.
Tell us what you think! Are you OK with another $10 increase in game prices, or is this asking too much of gamers today? Let us know in the comments below and keep your eyes peeled to PlayStation Universe for PS4 updates in the days and weeks ahead.

What in... when do prices start high and go down? Last time I checked, games have always been priced at $59.99. Did I miss something?

When will companies learn that profit margin isn't everything? Have they learned nothing with mobile gaming? I know the cost of development is as high as ever, but increasing the prices of games isn't the answer to a good return. Getting it in the hands of AS MANY GAMERS as possible is the answer. I feel they should be lowering the price of games to $39, maybe even $29. I feel if they cut the cost of games in half they'll often TRIPLE the amount of games sold. Lower profit margin, yes... but more overall profit. Stop jacking up the prices, you're just cutting down the amount of people who can actually buy the games. THEN, and this is the salt in the wounds, to try to get more sales you compromise the integrity of beloved franchises in the name of making it 'more accessible'. Shame.

@25 - So, your quite happy to pay an extra $10. That's what PSU was asking and everyone was giving their opinion. Your opinion isn't so much about the price than it is about other peoples views (which you make up the numbers as you go along - you don't know what dlc we all buy). So, was the point (with your Lmfao) that your just more intelligent than the rest of us or something? Because it didn't work or go over.
Whatever prices for DLC you talk about people paying, the numbers were an additional $10 to it, paid up front. People have a right to object to it.
Now look, an EA rep has basically helped Jorgensen in his backtrack. I guess if everyone was like you we'd all be gladly paying extra up front.
Ohhhh, of course. Your trrrrrrolllllling, why didn't I see that before...... Trolls are sad and unproductive.

This is outrageous. Who would be crazy enough to pay 70$ for 1 game. I am pretty sure that if this turns out to be true, they are gonna lose many of their customers. Specially when u live in a country like Sweden with high taxes. That means 15$ more for us who live here. Never buying a game from ea ever again if this is true.

For right now, im sticking to what Sony has said, and that is games are to be $0.99-$60. Just because the EA says games may go up $10, doesn't mean their going to. Some of you need to chill a bit.

Wow! Good thing that was an error I was about to have a "Hulk Rage" moment! I am still frustrated with games at $60. I am a believer that even if games were even just $10 less then I would own many more and be more willing to take chances or be more forgiving. When a game is $60 if I'm not really happy with it then it's hard for me to even think about a sequel. Sadly Asssssins Creed was a good example. I didn't like it enough to give the other games a chance. I know the games have been successful but I don't own any......maybe I'll try again because I can get them cheap now.
Point? - $60 is bad enough, $70 is a deal breaker!!!!!!

If this is the case this will make me think twice about upgrading to the PS4
