A Trophy featured in God of War: Ascension is to receive a name change following a series of online complaints, developer Sony Santa Monica has confirmed.

The offensive Trophy in question, named ‘Bros before Hos,’ is awarded to players after Kratos defeats one of the game’s female opponents.

However, speaking to Joystiq, Sony said that the Trophy will be patched and renamed ‘Bros before Foes.’

"We have created and will soon push out a patch for God of War: Ascension that alters the title of one of the game Trophies. The text was offensive to some members of our community and impacted their enjoyment of the game," reads the statement.

God of War: Ascension is due out in the U.S. today and arrives in the U.K. on Friday. Read our review of the prequel here.

People complain about everything now a days. All the time and effort going into a patch just to change the name of a trophy.

I was indifferent to Adam Sessler until now.  Now he comes off as a bit of a d0uchebag - geting all whiney over Kratos beating the crap out of a "female" character which was one of the Furies from Greek mythology.  Since Sony felt they had to change the name of the trophy, they should have used "Adam is a D0uchebag".

Adam Sessler has now lost all credibility as a games reviewer, bumping his score down to a 6/10 because of the name of a trophy shows all he was after was a few minutes in the spotlight and youtube hits. Shame on him.

The sad thing is they don't get offended by all the women really depicted as hoes during the game, they only get offended when it written.

Some people are too soft. Sony had to change the rating for their reputation so I don't blame them but the people that complained need to get a grip.

So brothels and murder isn't offensive in a game? but the word "ho's" is? This patch should be optional, let the few idiots that complained download it.

Wow I just watched the Adam Sessler review after seeing him brought up multiple times in these comments. And yeah, he was pretty pathetic. He goes in initially giving his review of the actual game mechanics, stuff he liked/disliked about aspects of the game itself (you know, the stuff that actually matters), and then at the end, the part he chooses to get the most passionate about, is the part where Kratos bashes a Fury's (enemy female) face in and what they chose to call the trophy. He literally goes in on Santa Monica for it and ends his whole review on that note as if to imply most certainly, that it had an impact on the lower score he gave the game.

Watch out people, looks like there's potentially a new scoring criteria on the horizon. In the past it was:

Gameplay, Visuals, Replay Value, Story, and Sound

    and now (drumrolls)

    POLITICAL CORRECTNESS!
