Dark Souls sells over 2 million copies

From Software has revealed that Dark Souls has shifted north of 2.3 million copies globally since its launch in 2011.

The studio’s head honcho, Eiichi Nakajima, made the announcement during an event in Japan, as reported by Gpara (via NeoGAF).

Nakajima-san also used this opportunity to confirm that the sequel, Dark Souls 2, will be released in Japan on Xbox 360. The game’s predecessor was a PlayStation 3-exclusive in the region, as was Demon’s Souls.

From Software provided an overall break-down of sales for the brutal hack-‘n-slash. Dark Souls moved 375,000 copies in its native Japan, and a further 1.3 million units in the U.S. and Europe.

The DLC-heavy re-release, Artorias of the Abyss Edition, flogged 137,000 copies in Japan and 555,000 units Internationally. All in all, that’s an impressive 2,367,000 copies sold. Not too shabby for a series which was once regarded something of a niche effort.

Dark Souls 2 is due out for PS3, PC and Xbox 360 in 2014.
