Doug Creutz, an analyst with Cowen & Company, has said that Call of Duty: Black Ops II is on track to rake in record franchise sales.
Writing in research note, Creutz said that the military shooter is notching up impressive numbers in the months following the Christmas holidays.
"Post-holiday sales trends for BO2 have been significantly better than those for last year's Modern Warfare 3, and we expect BO2 to slightly beat the previous franchise high watermark of the original Black Ops on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms across its life cycle."
Black Ops II was released in November 2012 and according to Activision had generated $1 billion globally in just 15 days. By comparison, Modern Warfare 3 achieved that figure in 16 days.
Unsurprisingly, Black Ops II – which features campaigns in both the 1980s and a futuristic setting – went on to become the best-selling videogame of 2012 in North America and the U.K.
