The Last of Us review round-up: Naughty Dog's finest hour

Naughty Dog’s hotly-anticipated new IP The Last of Us hits stores on June 14, bringing with it a gut-wrenching, emotional dose of post-apocalyptic mayhem for protagonists Joel and Ellie. Slogging across a ravaged U.S. in wake of a deadly fungal virus pandemic, The Last of Us is a game of survival and wits, as the pair battle infected and human foe while scavenging for anything they can get their hands on in order to make ends meet.

Naturally, coming from the creative minds behind the Uncharted franchise, The Last of Us has a hefty weight of expectation on its shoulders; after all, Nathan Drake’s escapades very much defined not just the action-adventure genre on PlayStation 3, but for this generation of consoles in general. We've seen that The Last of Us has really pushed PS3 in terms of sumptuous visuals, but how does it actually play? And what of the relationship between Joel and Ellie?

Fortunately, any concerns can be put to rest. Much to our delight, it seems the consensus among critics is that Naughty Dog has crafted one of the most thrilling, spectacular-looking games out there, as you can see from the score round-up below.
