Sony has announced a new service, dubbed Bid for Greatness, which will allow PSN users to use their gold trophies to bid towards certain merchandise. While users do not lose their account's hard-earned gold trophies, they can only be successfully bid towards an item once.

This interesting new service is only available to North American PSN users, and runs through July 30. What do you think of Sony's new perspective on trophies? Would you like to see trophies become more meaningful through services like Bid for Greatness, or would you prefer the system to remain the same? Let us know in the comments section below.
