Capcom doesn't give much hope for a new Darkstalkers title

The future of the Darkstalkers franchise is clouded in uncertainty after it has emerged that the recent Darkstalkers: Resurrect failed to meet sales expectations.

Capcom revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend that the cult vampire-brawler doesn’t have anything in the pipeline at present.

“Darkstalkers Resurrection did not perform as well as would have liked to perform,” Capcom’s Matt Dahlgren told Siliconera. “You never know what the future may hold, but Street Fighter is definitely not dead.”

Quizzed on rumors of a new Darkstalkers title in the works, he added: “There is nothing Darkstalkers on the immediate horizon for sure.”

Worryingly for fans, the publisher didn’t reignite its 'Darkstalkers Are Not Dead' campaign at Comic-Con this year.

Darkstalkers was originally released in 1994 with Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors in arcades, before receiving a home console port a few years later. The beat-‘em-up spawned two sequels: 1995’s Darkstalkers Revenge and 1997’s Darkstalkers 3, with both titles getting a high-definition makeover and online multiplayer with Darkstalkers: Resurrection earlier this year.

Are you disappointed that Capcom has seemingly abandoned support of the Darkstalkers series? Did you enjoy Darkstalkers: Resurrection? Let us know in the comments section below.
