The in-development movie adaptation of Gran Turismo will chronicle the rise of Lucas Ordonez from Gran Turismo 5 gamer to real-life racer.
Back in 2008, Spanish university student Ordonez triumphed in the inaugural GT Academy championship , and went on to rack up an impressive run in the European GT4 Cup, where he got behind the wheel of a Nissan 370Z.
In 2011, Ordonez tested his might on the 14 Hours Le Mans Cup, where alongside two teammates he secured an impressive 2nd place on the podium. The following year he assumed the role of lead driver in Nissan’s ‘all-gamer car’ at the Dubai 24 Hours.
Kazunori Yamauchi, the head of Gran Turismo studio Polyphony Digital, revealed that he had been receiving movie offers for the PlayStation-exclusive franchise for seven years now, but had always turned them down.
However, Yamauchi-san admitted he was won over by the current offer’s script, which he says packs in growth and maturity.
A release date for the Gran Turismo movie hasn’t been announced.
