PS4 European/UK release date delay explained by Sony

Sony has told Digital Spy the reason why the PlayStation 4 will be launching in Europe two weeks after it hits the U.S.

At the Sony press conference at GamesCom this week, we learned that the PS4 will be released on November 15 in North America and November 29 in Europe. Speaking to Digital Spy, UK managing director Fergal Cera said that the slight delay is due to production.

"It’s simply round production, in which there’s a finite factory output, so it’s easier to phase it and therefore have healthy volumes in both regions,” he said. “Put the initial slug into the US, and then it gives us an opportunity to catch up and have extra production ready for the European launch date."

Even then it looks like Europeans will struggle to get their hands on a PS4 at launch with UK retailers no longer guaranteeing release day deliveries.
