Beyond: Two Souls has been censored in Europe

Sony has confirmed that Quantic Dream’s supernatural adventure Beyond: Two Souls has been censored for Europe.

According to a post on the PlayStation Blog, the PlayStation 3-exclusive title has been cut to be “in-line” with a PEGI 16 rating. What this basically means is that 5-10 seconds of gameplay have been “edited slightly.”

"For Beyond we wanted to make the game available to as many people as possible, hence applying for a PEGI 16 rating," the post reads.

"The 5-10 seconds I mention above would have upped our rating to a PEGI 18, so it made perfect sense to make these two VERY minimal changes to get our planned 16 rating.

"I can assure you that this does not affect the game's story at all, and that if you didn't know these scenes had been amended, you wouldn't even notice.

"Hope the above helps to allay your concern."

Beyond: Two Souls is due out next week and features Ellen Page and Willem Defoe, in a tale that explores the question of life after death. Gamers will be able to explore 15 years of Jodie Holmes’ (Page) life as she attempts to uncover the mysteries behind Aiden; a strange being that has accompanied her throughout most of her life.

The game carries a budget of $27 million, making it more expensive than Quantic Dream’s previous effort, 2010’s Heavy Rain. Studio boss David Cage recently revealed that the company's next game will be 'very different' to Beyond and its predecessor
