Infinity Ward’s Tina Palacios has confirmed that the developer isn’t planning on making a fourth installment in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare franchise.
Palacios told OXM that the studio, which shares development responsibilities of Call of Duty with Treyarch, also revealed a little behind its inspiration for the forthcoming CoD: Ghosts, specifically related to Modern Warfare 2’s Simon ‘Ghost’ Riley.
“I can say that our focus and only focus is on Ghosts right now as it is, and we have no other plans at this time,” before adding, “when we were creating Ghosts, we really got inspired by Ghost from Modern Warfare 2, just by how he looks.
“It made sense for these soldiers we have in Ghosts who want to hide their identities would have the same masks and face paint. I think it would be safe for me to say that just knowing the characters from our previous games didn’t have a backstory, that’s what really pushed us forward. We thought we need to really establish that.”
The most recent entry in the Modern Warfare franchise was released in 2011 and brought about the conclusion to storyline featuring Captain Price and chums. While Modern Warfare 4 has yet to be announced, it is rumored to be in development at Sledgehammer Games following a listing for the shooter appeared on an employee’s resume.
Call of Duty: Ghosts is due out on current and next-generation formats from November 5.
