Call of Duty: Ghosts could be new sub-series, Infinity Ward likes PS4 architecture

A rather revealing Eurogamer interview with Mark Rubin, Infinity Ward executive producer, sees Rubin suggesting that Call of Duty: Ghosts might be the start of a sub-series and talking about some of the difficulties faced in developing Ghosts.

When asked about whether it was time to leave the "modern warfare setting" behind, Rubin didn't seem to agree, and was full of praise for Call of Duty: Ghosts, which he viewed as "such a departure from the Modern Warfare Universe." When praising Ghosts, he proceeded to say, "Let's say we do a couple of games on the Ghosts style, and then we could go and do another subtitle game." When pressed further as to whether Ghosts could become a sub-series, Rubin said, "Yeah. It doesn't have to, but it could."

The bulk of Eurogamer's detailed interview focuses on the challenges of making the game. Rubin indicates more than 145 people were involved in working on the game, but, thankfully, "Xbox One and PS4 are very much like PC" and a far cry from the previous generation's "peculiar architecture."

Finally, Rubin doesn't have any intention to cut down the hard-drive space demands of Infinity Ward games, despite Call of Duty: Ghosts' alarming 49 GB install. He said, "I would be very upset if we limited ourselves on the visuals because we were worried about hard drive space," and that new console models will be released with hard drives sized as necessary.

Take a look at our review of Call of Duty: Ghosts. The game is already available for Wii U, PC, PlayStation 3 and ahead of time for PlayStation 4, and is due for release on XBOX One on November 15.
