New Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag DLC launches this week

Though the eighth generation of consoles is only a few weeks old and the game itself just over a month, Ubisoft today announced the first multiplayer DLC for Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag, Blackbeard’s Wrath. The DLC will be available for download Tuesday, December 11, 2013 for all applicable platforms. Ubisoft describes the characters as:

“Blackbeard, wielding a sword and a short temper is not to be trifled with. His reputation as a feared pirate is justly received and his preferred kill moves include using his tremendous strength to throw his targets off balance and then quickly finishing them with one clean strike.

The Orchid, a Templar-friendly deadly assassin grew up in China, serving as a military advisor in the Quing dynasty where she honed her murderous skills. She executes opponents swiftly and gracefully with her katana, an extension of her mind and body.

The Jaguar, Cuali, an Aztec warrior from Mexico, took to the sea to fight against the Spanish conquest of Central America. A fighter, he survived the destruction of his community and joined forces with a growing contingency of native Templars who sought renewed peace and order. Driven by a mystical force, The Jaguar fights like his namesake, striking swiftly and quietly with his preferred weapon, a discreet axe.”

Ubisoft also reminds gamers that the season pass for ACIV is now available and includes not only Blackbeard’s Wrath, but also a “nine-mission self-contained story” called Freedom Cry, the Kraken Ship Pack, and more single player missions, skins, collectibles, and pointy and/or noisy things to kill enemies with.

Again, this is only about a month since the game’s release on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. Ubisoft is cranking out DLC at a rapid pace, and if it continues to do so, the season pass will suddenly look very, very appealing. Even if they didn’t release a single new DLC pack after Blackbeard’s Wrath, two DLC packs (one for multiplayer and one with nine single-player missions), more single-player missions after that, and extra skins, collectibles, and weapons are well worth the $19.99 USD the season pass costs. In addition to all that, season pass holders will receive any future DLC at absolutely no extra charge.

That sounds like a killer deal to us, no pun intended. What do you think? Will you be picking up Blackbeard’s Wrath? Will you be getting it with or without a season pass? Scroll down. We’re listening.
