PS4 is 'biggest launch ever' for consoles, beats Wii, PS2, and Xbox One

Game industry analysis firm DFC Intelligence has named PlayStation 4 as the biggest launch ever for a gaming console.

In a market brief released earlier today (via press release), DFC stacked PS4's 2.1 million unit sales in its first two weeks against Nintendo Wii's 1.6 million (North America and Japan), PlayStation 2's 1.4 million (Japan-only), and Xbox One's 2 million (worldwide). PS4's 2.1 million sales have come via North America and Europe.

DFC analyst David Cole explains that the previous launch record holders were PS2 and Wii, but PS4 has surpassed both. DFC Intelligence continues to forecast that PS4 will lead this new console generation, with Sony's "early leadership position" as an especially good indicator.
