The Order: 1886 locked to 30 fps 'in favor of spectacular effects' and 1080p

An interview with Ready at Dawn boss Ru Weerasuriya by German website Play3 reveals The Order: 1886, one of Sony's high-profile PS4 releases in 2014, will be locked at 30 frames per second.

Weerasuriya, in a translation courtesy of Gaming Bolt, explains the decision was made ". . . In favor of spectacular effects and the highest resolution," though he admits that 60 frames per second makes sense first-person shooters and fighting games. "But for us, the cinematic experience [should be] presented in full HD 1080p."

On other matters, Weerasuriya says there are three pillars that distinguish The Order: 1886 from its blockbusters competitors and other third-person shooters: immersion, moment-to-moment gameplay that defies typical level-cutscene-level-cutscene structure, and the combat system, including weapons that blend sci-fi, fantasy, and historical aesthetic alongside a melee system quick reactions and a certain level of intuition, with some environmental objects usable in melee combat.

In previous interviews, Weerasuriya has discussed the aforementioned pacing and melee systems, the influence of Uncharted on The Order's development, and how GameStop's used game market exploits consumers while hurting developers.

Meanwhile, The Order: 1886 is shaping up to be one of PS4's most anticipated, but also most mysterious, titles. The game was first revealed at Sony's E3 2013 press conference and received another trailer at Gamescom 2013. A host of recent screenshots give us a glimpse at the game's Victorian London setting, and rumors abound of both a Fall 2014 release and that Ready at Dawn's first blockbuster exclusive will rival Naughty Dog's efforts in its graphical splendor.
