PS3 price cut unlikely to happen any time soon, says EA

The chief financial officer for Electronic Arts has suggested that a price cut for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 isn’t likely to materialize any time soon.

Speaking at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Technology conference in San Francisco (via GameSpot), Blake Jorgensen commented:

“At some point [Microsoft and Sony] will most likely bring those prices down, which could expand the marketplace for old-generation software.

“I’m guessing it’s probably late in the year or maybe even after next Christmas. I don’t know; they’ve not told us what their plans are but it’s probably not any time real soon.”

PS3 launched in November 2006 and is currently available in the Super Slim variety, while Xbox 360 arrived a year earlier and has also undergone similar hardware modifications.

While the industry is beginning to transition to the next generation of formats, it is believed both PS3 and 360 will be supported for a number of years to come.
