Sony to show the 'Future of Innovation' at GDC 2014

News surrounding Sony's rumored Virtual Reality headset is heating up fast. With the Game Developer's Conference scheduled to begin next week in San Francisco, a slew of tidbits have leaked out; causing many to believe that Sony will debut their VR headset at the conference.

The title of Sony's GDC 2014 Session "Driving the Future of Innovation at Sony Computer Entertainment" is what brought some substance to this theory. But what's really important are the three individuals who will be speaking at the event.

Richard Marks, Senior Director, SCEA R&D, spearheaded the creation of EyeToy, PlayStation Eye, and PlayStation Move. Anton Mikhailov, Sr. Software Engineer, SCEA R&D and co-creator of PlayStation Move, is a wunderkind with technology. Recognized as one of Forbes Magazine's 30 Under 30 in Games and Apps, him and Marks are a strong duo, no matter what you think about the failures of PlayStation Move.

And of course, President of SCE Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida. To have three such important people at an event like GDC is definitely orchestrated for something reasonably big.

Some members of NeoGaf have a hunch that the recent announcement of DriveClub "going back to the drawing board" could mean VR integration. I do not think we will get confirmation of that on March 18 when Sony presents at GDC, but it is not that far-fetched of a theory.

But is the VR headset a smokescreen for something else? We have not seen many of Sony's plans for the PS4 camera. Aside from The Playroom and inappropriate Twitch streams, the future of the peripheral has not been discussed. (That has not stopped it from becoming a scarce item)

So what do you think? Does the idea of Sony's VR headset excite you? Would it be a day-one purchase? Or do you think Sony will throw a curve ball at their session next week? We'd love to hear what you think.
