Dark Souls 2 visual comparison: has the brutal hack-'n-slash been downgraded?

Hot on the heels of Watch Dogs’ alleged visual downgrade comes reports that Dark Souls 2 has also suffered a noticeable dip in the quality of its graphics since 2013.

Earlier gameplay footage of From Software’s notoriously difficult RPG action-adventure appears to depict superior lightning and visual effects, users have noted on NeoGAF.

In fact, some cite that Dark Souls 2 has been downgraded since the PlayStation 3 beta, which took place only last year. Check out the comparison video below.

One suggestion however is that the original gameplay footage is the PC release, which publisher Namco Bandai outlined will feature “increased texture resolution and an enhanced frame rate option.”

However, this doesn’t account for the seemingly enhanced lighting effects depicted in the original footage of the game.

Regardless, we found Dark Souls 2 to be a
worthy successor to 2011’s hack-’n-slash hit. What do you make of the visual comparisons? Let us know in the comments section below.
