Sony VR headset officially announced, dubbed 'Project Morpheus'

Earlier today at the Games Developer Conference 2014, Sony officially announced the long rumored Virtual Reality headset it has been working on for the past three years. Dubbed "Project Morpheus," the VR headset is the first official prototype that Sony has shown off to the public and will be used as the first development kit for PlayStation 4 developers.

Sony unveiled lots of details:

-A head mounted display with 1080p resolution and a 90 degree field of view

-Accurately tracks head orientation and movement, so as your head rotates, the image of the virtual world rotates intuitively in real-time

-New 3D audio technology that re-creates stereoscopic sounds in all directions and changes in real-time depending on your head orientation

-Project Morpheus works with the PlayStation Camera, DUALSHOCK 4 Wireless Controller, and PlayStation Move

Sony also announced that people will be able to go hands-on with the VR headset at GDC, One of the games that was playable during the show was the newly released "Thief" but only in a specific VR designed demo from the title. Sony also announced it is working with CCP to bring EVE: Valkyrie to "Project Morpheus".

No price or release date was announced for "Project Morpheus," but stay tuned to PSU as news develops from GDC 2014, and let us know what you think in the comments below.
