UPDATE: Yoshida corrected Keighley on Twitter, replying the light bar can only be dimmed, not complete turned off.

ORIGINAL STORY: GameTrailers' Geoff Keighley today
tweeted that Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, announced the upcoming PlayStation 4 firmware update will provide the option to turn off the DualShock 4 controller's light bar.

Many PS4 owners have complained about the always-on light bar, as it contributes to draining some of the controller's battery and can cause glare on some televisions. This news comes as a welcome surprise, as Yoshida previously stated that no future updates would allow the light bar to be switched off.

It's great to hear Sony is still listening to its audience and taking action to please PlayStation consumers. Hopefully other requested features for the PS4 such as local media playback and DLNA media server support become a reality in the near future.

Excited to turn off the DualShock 4 light bar? What other features would you like to see added to the PS4? Let us know in the comments below.
