Watch Dogs' Aiden Pearce now has realistically-animated thumbs, thanks to delay

Ubisoft’s decision to postpone the release of Watch Dogs allowed the development team to fully animate protagonist Aiden Pearce’s thumbs.

Speaking on the Ubi Blog, Colin Graham, Animation Director on the upcoming open world hacking title, said that gamers can expect much more than Pearce’s dexterous finger work, thanks to the extra memory afforded by next-generation consoles.

"We animated Aiden's thumb movements so he's better at hacking," said Graham. "For example, when he hacks a tower, you'll see he clicks on the screen properly with his thumb. We didn't have that quite right before.

“The animation is always a bottleneck on memory, so we can have a lot more diversity and variety now.

"You will never see the same thing twice, guaranteed. Your experience is unique. You go around this corner and the ten people that are there will be ten completely different people. Ten different profiles, ten different backgrounds, different actions, different combinations of actions."

A recent ESRB info drop confirmed that the game will feature heavy use of sexual content, including the depiction of oral sex.

Watch Dogs is scheduled to ship for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC on May 27.
