Watch Dogs dev stresses importance of frame rates

The lead programmer behind Ubisoft’s hotly-anticipated Watch Dogs has highlighted the importance of frame rate for the upcoming open world action-adventure.
Speaking during an interview with GamingBolt, Francis Boivin also delved into some of the visual enhancements seen in the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game.
“Frame rate is very important to the gameplay, to the controls. It’s not something you want to compromise on,” he said.
“Watch Dogs uses the same post-process anti-aliasing solution on both Xbox One and PS4. Each frame, a custom SMAA filter is applied on the image. On top of that, we smooth the image even more by using a temporal solution; that is, by re-projecting each pixel to its position in the previous frame and by letting each go through a set of heuristics tailored for the game, we’re able to further reduce visible aliasing.”
Ubisoft previously announced that the PS4 version of Watch Dogs will run at 30fps/1080p.
Watch Dogs is due out on PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC on May 27, with a Wii U version arriving at a later date. The game was originally scheduled to ship in November, but was postponed to afford extra polishing time.
