GTA 4, Red Dead Redemption online modes to suffer following GameSpy closure

The impending closure of GameSpy on May 31 will affect various online components for Grand Theft Auto IV, Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne 3, Rockstar has announced.

While the core online experience for the games will remain intact, some features will not survive the transition.

Specifically, Social Club stat tracking, leaderboards, and in-game Social Club features for Red Dead Redemption will be removed, though the online multiplayer will remain intact. However, the PlayStation 3 version of the Wild West action-adventure will also see in-game multiplayer leaderboards given the chop.

Similarly, GTA IV’s core multiplayer will continue to function, but Social Club stat tracking, leaderboards and in-game leaders on PS3 won’t survive.

Max Payne 3 fairs slightly better, with online gameplay remaining operational, as will Social Club stat tracking, leaderboards and in-game leaderboards.

Things aren’t so rosy for older Rockstar games, however.

Midnight Club Los Angeles for PS3 will see online multiplayer completely shut down, though other versions won’t be affected. Naturally, this means Social Club features, Rate my Ride and Driving Test features won’t remain operational, either.

The PSP and DS versions of GTA: Chinatown Wars will also suffer in light of the GameSpy closure, with Social Club mini-games, stat tracking and content unlocks given the boot.

Fortunately, Grand Theft Auto V won’t be affected whatsoever, as you’d probably expect.
