Naughty Dog has revealed that the in-game character models featured in The Last of Us Remastered will pack the same visual fidelity as their cutscene counterparts from the PlayStation 3 original.
Chatting with EDGE, the studio’s Neil Druckmann admitted that the team started to wonder if they’d be able to squeeze the full 1080p/60fps cinematic experience onto one disc.
“Our cinematics are now running at 1080p and 60fps, and that involved rendering them all from scratch. It’s interesting that now [instead of a technical bottleneck], the bottleneck is ‘Can we fit all this on the disc?’” said Druckmann.
“We don’t build it with high assets in mind to then port it, but it did give us a leg up. If we hadn’t done that, we might not have made the call to bring it over to PS4,” he added.
The Last of Us Remastered also features improved lighting effects and enemy models, as well as packing in all available DLC for players to enjoy out of the box.
The post-apocalyptic adventure will be released for PlayStation 4 this summer.
