E3 2014: The Last Guardian still coming, but Sony promises to let us know if it’s ever cancelled

The president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS) has reiterated that The Last Guardian is still in development, but promised to inform gamers should the project ever be shelved.

Speaking to Polygon at E3 this week, Shuhei Yoshida acknowledged that the Team ICO action-adventure remains a hotly anticipated title among PlayStation fans.

"It exists. The team is working hard on it," said Yoshida-san. "I was heartbroken when some article came out on some major site saying it was canceled.

"I will say this," he continued. "When we cancel a title and it is something we have announced already, we’ll say so.

"It’s a highly anticipated title, we have to do so."

The executive recently stated that the game wasn’t shown at E3 this week as it simply ‘wasn’t ready.’

The Last Guardian was announced at E3 2009 during Sony’s press briefing, and was originally slated for launch in holiday 2011. However, the project was delayed, and since then, has been the subject of much speculation.

Fumito Ueda, the creator behind the ambitious title, left Sony in December 2011 to work on the game in a freelance capacity. Sony has consistently denied rumors of its cancellation, though rumors have also cropped up that it has been quietly moved to PS4.
