The latest NPD figures have confirmed that PlayStation 4 outsold Xbox One in the U.S. last month, marking the console’s fifth consecutive month it has triumphed over its leading rival in the country.
May proved a pretty healthy period for the video games industry as a whole, with overall sales rocketing 52 per cent year-on-year to $586 million.
Meanwhile, hardware sales increased 95 per cent to $187 million, while software sales were up 57 per cent to $284 million. Traditionally, this period is pretty sluggish, though the introduction of new hardware has obviously given the market a shot in the arm, as you’d expect.
In terms of software, Watch Dogs topped the charts last month, followed by the system-selling racer, Super Mario Kart 8 for Wii U.
