Resident Evil: The Final Chapter will be Paul Anderson's last Resi movie

Director Paul W.S. Anderson has confirmed that the next instalment in the Resident Evil movie franchise will be his last.

Speaking to Collider, Anderson, who has been the driving force behind the action-horror series alongside wife Milla Jovovich for 14 years, said that the next film carries the working title ‘Resident Evil: The Last Chapter.’

Previously, it was believed the movie would be named ‘Resident Evil: Rising.’

“Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is the working title. It may be the final title, but that’s what’s written on the front page of my script,” said Anderson.

He added that the flick will “absolutely’ be his final contribution to the Resident Evil film universe.

Resident Evil originally hit cinemas in 2002 and has spawned four sequels to date: 2004’s Resident Evil: Apocalypse, 2007’s Resident Evil: Extinction, 2010’s Resident Evil: Afterlife, and 2012’s Resident Evil: Retribution.

No release date has been given for the final entry in the series, and Anderson couldn’t say whether it would turn up in 2015 or 2016.
