Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS) chief Shuhei Yoshida has indicated that the Uncharted franchise could be next in line for a PlayStation 4 makeover.
Speaking during an interview with Eurogamer, the executive described Nathan Drake’s PlayStation 3 action-adventure trilogy as a “good candidate” for a next-generation remaster.
"Almost 50 per cent of people who have purchased a PS4 didn't own a PS3, and that's lots of people that missed exclusive PS3 titles like The Last of Us, so it's a great way to welcome those people back to PlayStation, saying this is what you missed," said Yoshida-san.
"There are requests from some consumers for games that were released later in the generation, like Uncharted, which people might have missed," he added. "That would be a good candidate."
However, Yoshida-san made it clear that there won’t be an influx of PS3-era remasters, stating Sony doesn’t “want to flood the market with remade games.”
Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune was released in 2007 and was followed by two PS3 sequels: Among Thieves in 2009 and Drake’s Deception in 2011. PlayStation Vita also got its own adventure in the shape of Uncharted: Golden Abyss.
The next chapter in the critically-acclaimed franchise, which again features Nolan North as lead character Drake, is due out on PS4 in 2015.
