No downloadable content for EA's skate

EA is the biggest third party software developer in the world, and, as they say, the rich get richer. The newest and most rapidly growing form of producing gaming revenue is downloadable content. That's why we were surprised to hear that there would be no downloadable content released for EA's Tony Hawk competitor, skate.

"[We're] not planning any new content for Skate 1... We didn't want to go back and ask for more money to get more shoes and shirts," announced EA Black Box Executive Producer Scott Blackwood in an interview featured in the latest issue of EGM. "That's not how we wanted to enter this market."

Blackwood also spoke about the absence of female created characters. "We really wanted women to be in there and have all sorts of cool stuff to wear and hairstyles. You have to choose between watering the whole thing down and making it just really mediocre for everybody, or do you focus? We decided to focus. I will say, however, that was the hardest decision on this project. But we are going to make it up to you. When we do it -- and we will -- it's going to be done very well."

Although we're psyched that Black Box isn't trying to take our chump change with more shoes and clothes, we do wish they would add a new park or two with a few new events into the world. Alas, that's not the case. At least Danny Way's Mega Compound is still just as rad as ever.

Meh, it's skateboarding. Leave it back in the 80s where it belongs, with spandex, jumpsuits and legwarmers.

No big deal, Skate is pretty huge already just fix the PS3 version of the web site so I can show of my videos to people and I'll be happy, There's one unlockable female character I think. Not sure but I think I unlocked her last week, but of course, unlockables are not customizable.

As long as the 36* doesnt get any DLC either everything is fair.

I'm quite content with the game. In just 60 seconds, I customized my skater to look exactly like me, (it scared me a bit). Though later I found-out that many people stick with that look, and half of the skaters online on Reel look like me LOL. With so much content in the game and shoes/decks/clothes, extra content isn't necessary. Still, a feature to make 3D models of your real-world clothes and shoes, would be nice.

In-game ads? They add to the realism imho. A lot. It's not like you are forced to watch a 3-minute advertisement everywhere - they're just beautiful banners on top of buildings, or logos when you shop.

Now only if in Skate the cars drove faster, for max realism.

looks like the 360 is the real reason why they couldn't add the extra content. maybe if they built skate from a ps3 architecture and then give the 360 the water down version, this wouldn't be a problem. well i guess when you go with the lower denominator you'll get a water down game without a lot of options. thank goodness for blu-ray.
