Crytek: PlayStation 4 will "drive our research"

While Sony has taken steps to ensure that the PlayStation 3 will be the longest-lived of current-gen machines, some developers can't wait to get their hands on the next slab of hardware.
Speaking at the Game Convention Asia event, Crytek President and CEO Cevat Yerli has declared that the PlayStation 4's specifications will shape all subsequent Crytek projects. Those specifications have to be announced first, obviously - anybody care to predict a shipping date?
"Frankly, we are linking ourself to what the PS4 will take up as [its hardware] position," Yerli told IGN. "That is the console makeup that will drive all our research, so we cannot wait to know what the [machine] will be about. That's probably the most important missing information we have right now in our company."
Crytek tends to ask rather a lot of its hardware, with the formidable Crysis virtually unplayable on maximum settings whatever your PC setup. Small wonder then that they're eager to get their hands on the latest tech.
Would you mind knocking together a console Crysis for us hardware simpletons while you wait, guys?

yer sure, looks like PS3 can't pull of Crysis, wouldn't surprise me so they're looking for the newest pieces of hardware that could pull that game off...Megalomaniacs

I don't understand why they're not working on the PS3...I mean it's fairly new tech and surely the strongest console out of the current 3 so why not get to know the PS3 instead of hoping for something that's years down the road.

@7 Please don't try and tell me you think Resistance is better than crysis. I think alot of PS3 users would be ecstatic about this game coming to the system. Even some of the best PC's on the market have trouble running this game, so It's no wonder it can't be done on the PS3. I think even if they could dumb it down a little they should still bring it because it really is a great game. I think Sony should cut the 10 year plan on the PS3, and try to beat MS's "next box" to market with the PS4. I see the PS4 using intel architecture and a multi gpu setup.

Thank you. What's everyone's problem. People don't know how to use what we have NOW?! (Except Activion's COD houses, Infinity Ward and um, ...the other guys)

A year ago I asked Cevat Yerli "do you planning to create FarCry2 for PS3 or 360?" and answer was "No, we making games only for PC"... And what about now?

PS4 specs should handle crysis at maximum settings or even better think about it. PS1 to PS2 Huge leap in graphics and power plus space, PS2 to PS3 Huge leap again, PS3 to PS4 is? but wouldn't be surprised if there is another Huge leap. I mean sony has got there Cell processor dwn no problem. In the PS4 they add a more powerful Cell processor and a Cell Graphics chip. Obviously with a load a ram to back it up. All Im saying is Sony has potential to completely dominate the whole gaming industry with PS4. Who yet can afford and even get a cell processor in there PC's noone and I mean on average too. So, PS4 wid dual layer blu ray player as standard Cell processor and Graphics, at least a Terabyte of Ram and 100 GB hard drive as standard and PS4 is set. It probable Cost £475 or $935 approx (not exact figures estimate). Now I wud buy that I wouldn't giv a f*** I got money. Sony trust is in me.

Never played Crysis, my PC is like 2 years old so its a no go. BUT I can say this is a pretty silly statement. Sony won't even think about specs for a PS4 for about five more years. It seems that, like everyone else, they are underestimating what PS3 is capable of. I'm no expert on the cells and junk but everytime we get news out of developers they keep saying that basically their games devved for PS3 just can't max out its capabilities no matter how much they toss into the mix. Bottom line: WAY too early to consider a PS4, but maybe they just want to let Sony fans know they plan to get into the mix for Sony consoles somewhere down the line. In my experience these press releases always have a hidden agenda. As far as the NextBox goes, Sony would fail to try and fight it with a new console, it would look like they were making abandonware out of the PS3, and there really is no reason to do so.

Well atleast they didn't say that that the 360 2 (Or 720 or something else Tony Hawk does) would direct their research.

that is sad you need to look forward to a system that isnt even out yet to make something fun and nice looking. Other developers can so obviously its you and not the hardware. Thats like saying in the year 2060 I will have a holographic game that you inject inside your head. So you will need to wait. Also I have played crysis and warhead on my pc that cost me a arm and a leg and I dont play it anymore cause it wasnt even that great.

Spare me. Crysis may be a demanding game on the hardware, but to wait for the next PS console doesn't seem to make sense. The PS3 has plenty of potential. If they learned how to maximize the hardware they could reach or possibly equal the Crysis visual quality.

Dude... these guys are retarded. Why focus on something that is 6 years plus in the future? Focus on the here and now. Focus on how to put Crysis on current gen consoles. It's things like this, that are making this industry go downhill.

I think the next gen console will come with removable parts like a PC so it will have a longer life, so after its been out for a couple of years you can upgrade the video card and ram and hard drive and CPU. so it will stay up there in peak performance and the games will have video options to change like in pc games where you can adjust the eye candy.
That and Garlic bread are the FUTURE.
