Erroneously labeled as a remake by the uninformed, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is more than just a repackaging of Team Silent’s 1999 spook fest with a fresh coat of paint. Sure, it may adhere to the original PlayStation version’s tale of a desperate father searching for his lost daughter in the foggy eponymous town, but that’s where the similarities end. Nope, Shattered Memories is a complete re-imagining. Gone is the rusty, blood-encrusted atheistic of the original, instead replaced by a chilly ice-fest filled with tenacious goons and heaps of interactivity. Combat is conspicuously absent, instead replaced by heart thumping chase sequences. Furthermore, protagonist Harry Mason now has access to a swanky mobile phone, allowing him to examine objects and unearth clues to a compelling plot thwart with twists, turns and dodgy individuals. Intriguingly, the decisions you make will ultimately shape your destiny throughout, with characters reacting different depending on the choices you make during your adventure. Do you fancy yourself an alcoholic, misogynistic type or an intrinsically decent chap with no hidden layers? The path is ripe and ultimately yours for the taking in the Best PS2 Game of 2010.

And the Community Award goes to...

Other than gaming itself, the PSU community loves two things dearly: monsters and football. At least, those are the extremely unfounded conclusions we'd draw from the community vote for Best PS2 Game of 2010. Silent Hill scooped up the award with a delicate 2.9% margin of victory over FIFA 11, which garnered 39.4% of the community vote. The other three nominees failed to top 10% -- though The Lord of the Rings: Aragorn's Quest came in noticeably lower than MLB 10 and Sakura Wars with just 2.8% of votes.
