Beyond: Two Souls review round-up: masterpiece or misstep?

9 October 2013

David Cage returns with his latest effort this week in the PlayStation 3-exclusive, Beyond: Two Souls. Featuring an all-star cast including Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe, Beyond tells the story of Jodie Holmes (Page), a young woman who is stalked by a mysterious entity known as Aiden, capable of wielding supernatural powers.

Beyond’s narrative takes place over 15 years of Holmes’ life as she attempts to come to terms with the supernatural force that accompanies her, as she finds herself struggling on the streets homeless to working with the CIA.

However, Cage’s work is often like marmite -- you either love it or hate it. And from the look of the response from critics to Quantic Dream’s supernatural adventure, Beyond is definitely a divisive beast. One thing that cannot be denied though is that the visual quality is beyond (see what I did there?!) that of anything previously seen on the PS3 -- but does the game have enough gameplay and storytelling to back up its sumptuous aesthetics?

See below for our review round-up.
