Evolution Studios has said that it has only managed to scratch the surface of what it is capable of achieving on the PlayStation 3 following its work on the original MotorStorm title.

Speaking during an interview with Videogamer.com, Nigel Kershaw, director of the upcoming sequel MotorStorm Pacific Rift, stated, "We've realised we've just scratched the surface of what we could actually do with the machine. And I'm sure next time around we'll learn a lot more from MotorStorm Pacific Rift."

"The first game pushed the PS3, this is pushing the PS3, our next game is going to push the PS3. It's not so much about pushing the hardware, it's about learning how to use the hardware in the best possible fashion."

"Now we've spent a lot of time with it we're starting to make it sing under the hood," he said, referring to the advantages of having already released a game for the Sony platform.

Kershaw added that developers are slowly starting to unlock the power of the machine as companies begin work on their second or third title for the PS3, commenting:

"Actually the first and second generation of games that we've seen on the PS3 are just people starting to learn how to make great games for it. It's a long race. Now that developers are starting to write their second or third game, they're starting to untap the power that's within there."

MotorStorm Pacific Rift is due out later this year.

this is nothing new... as time progresses you will become more comfortable with developing on a platform. now only if the n00bish dev's out there would realize this and strart making some reasonable efforts...

@EVO9MRJR: You do realize that developing a game is a long and difficult process, don't you? Besides, the PS3 architechture is difficult in the sense that it's somewhat different from the other consoles which offer fewer possibilities but in exchange a simpler development platform. With comments like "they just arent that smart", you sound like you assume that every developer knows off the top of his head how to use the Cell BE and RSX fully. Well, they don't. It is the same with every platform ever created, and will probably continue that way, but some platforms just have a gentler learning curve. No doubt, the PS3 is the best of its generation, but it is certainly not the easiest to develop for.

psn id: gingo.... the first motorstorm title was very impressive especially for a launch game (well in UK anyway) so if they can build on that plus have 4 player split screen, i cant wait to see how much they have improved it

What we need are more system exclusive titles. Too many games being developed for both competiting machines so really the xbox is probably dragging down  a lot of games that could  have been better. I hope exclusive titles like Killzone, Socom, and MGS will really raise the bar on what is the future of this young system.

weird how evolution have only scratched the surface of the ps3's power, while Konami have all ready stated that they are getting the most they can out of the console

splitscreen is great yep. 4 way split would be greater. but 2-4 players split and online. that's where its at.

before you say ANYTHING there's as much potential for cheating in this configuration as in any party game with voicechat. could just as well put 2 ps3s next to each other and play online together for that matter. hopefully this isn't a significant factor, at least not enough so to deterr any dev from incorporating this sort of feature ( hopefully anything that would unbalance the gameplay could be prevented). i spose there are other factors like maybe bandwidth with the exra inputs, but still i want to be able to hop online with a friend or two plZ!! heck mariokart did it so cmon evo!

then again mariokart wii is dirty and cheap beyond words.  i've never had so much fun getting relentlessly pounded from behind.
