I've seen many claims that the PS3 user base is mostly young, or old, or interested in lots of different types of games, or just BDs, or maybe even only music, so I thought I'd poll everyone's age (those of you with a PS3), and ask your preferences for use with the PS3.
I'm 31 and us my PS3 primarily to play games and amuse my daughter (who loves games like Ratchet and Clank, and Eye games). I also use it as a BD and DVD player and to store image and music so I can remotely access them with my PSP, or sometimes just play music in the livingroom where I have no stereo. Besides this, I also us it to play PS2 games (occassionally), to fold, and to heat my living room :D; however, it is primarily used for gaming.
So, what's your age, and how do you use your PS3?

20 Years old, use the system mainly for gaming. Got music on there and videos so games aren't the only thing being played...I have to say honestly, all of the people on my friends list for the most part are around my age or older....I feel like there are more moderately aged individuals than younger kids. Anytime I was on a friends 360 it seemed that the most obnoxious little kids were always crying and yelling over Live, but it seems when playing online with the PS3 you get more reasonable and intelligent individuals. But hey, I guess that's why we bought PS3's... ;-) ...I do also use the browser for the system, while some think its entirely stupid, I kind of like it. I might sit there, rock some music, maybe chat with some buddies while surfing the net and blazin (before the gaming of course), looking for movies, etc etc etc. I don't use the browser feature constantly as I have a separate computer and notebook, but its a neat feature none the less. But gaming gets the most time on the PS3...

Use my ps3 for gaming alot
Showing videos on youtube...(My friends always love seeing it on a tv)
Playing videos from my computer to the tv through the media connection feature
Playing music the same way
and of course, a bluray player
If only I had a job that paid more than 100 bucks a week so I could buy some more games. Haha

Gah! I forgot the whole 'heating my room' thing. I'm also adding that to my list of things I use my PS3 for!

19.
I use it for games mostly, however if I want to watch a movie it's there, if I want to store video on it it's there, if I want to store music on it it's there.
Basically the PS3 can do so much it's just there when I need it.
Single representative in the 26-30 so far.
I use it for games (PS2 and 3 and PSN), movies (DVD and BR), internet and to stream all my media (pics, music, videos). And fold too.

I like this idea for a survey, but it's hard to see the age group by looking at the "graph" because you split the ages up, sometimes 2 yrs, sometimes 5, sometimes 10 yrs difference between options...
Still, gives you some very interesting data :-p
26, mostly movies and some games. Don't have much time because I'm building my own house.

I'm 20 and i use it mostly for games with a blu-ray on occastion, mostly when im not at college and at home where there is an hdtv. i play ps2 sparingly on the ps3 but it happens from time to time. i havent done music or pictures on it yet but like said i know i can if i want to. o yea it was my only way of using the internet for a month after the motherboard in my laptop died and i was waiting for a knew one. that was one of the times i was so happy that the ps3 had an internet browser in it.

31 I basically bought mine when in the USA just because I could, I'm quite happy with my 360 but I know that titles such as KZ2, Uncharted are appealing and I will buy them on release.
I watch the odd Blu-Ray on the machine, but honestly dont do much else with it. I have no need for the streaming, pics ,video etc as I have a PC in my front room already, hell I even have a laptop in the bathroom lol.
This goes the same for the 360, I use that soley for gaming and thats it.
I have a standalone DVD player the front room already.
Thinking about it in my front room I have 4 peices of equipment capable of playing a DVD, scary considering a few years back I said this DVD will never catch on lol

And perhaps thats becuase I fit in with themore mature PS3 userbase. Whoever said Xbox Live was filled with little obnoxious kids, is sadly correct. My PS3 is for Games and movies equally.
But my mum sues it so much. It's quite annoying sometiems, but she uses it for pictures. I am sure I don't know half the things PS3 can do though. I would like to learn EVERYTHING about it.

Storing: music, some HD wallpapers, favorite game trailers, demos & the E3 '07 press conf. No PSP, so I cant remote anything. Although I do have a PSN ID, I've yet to play online.............

Games mostly. A few PS3 (PSN games as well), more for ps2 games (yeah, alot i needed to finish, still have a few more), and only ever 2 ps1 games (Vagrant Story and Vandal Hearts). I love my collection so far, what can I say. I like playing the older titles as well.
Havent used the Blu-ray yet, im not big on movies. Most I like I have on dvd, theres not many newer ones that are appealing enough, but once I have a HD tv (yep, its true, none yet. very soon) then ill be sure to be buying any new titles I like on BD, although it wont be many.
Pictures, movies, and music... I have a few on there but for no real reason. Just to do it I guess.
And the browser I use when im too lazy to turn on the laptop. Its not the greatest but it gets me to this site, and a few others I fequent so eh, im not complaining. There ya have it.

I use my ps3 mainly for gaming, besides that I use it to stream movies/music and play blu ray movies, its mostly used for gaming though.
Umm in 15. Few days away from being 16.
I pretty much use my PS3 mainly for games. Thats why i spent £525 on the **** thing. But i also occasionally use it for Blu-rays and DVDs aswell, because i haven't got enough room under my TV for a serpate DVD player.
I don generally use it for pictures, apart from the various ones i use as PS3 backgrounds, and ones that i get sent by my PSN buddies. I also have some videos that i downloaded off the PSNStore, and Demos off their aswell obviously.
Every now and then i use the internet browser, but hardly ever. One a month at the most. It's too slow for me, but sometimes it is useful when i am having a conversation with someone via messages, and i want to browse the internet also.
I'm 36. Picked up a 20 gig last december. $499 for a blu-ray player was a steal. I use my PS3 maybe 3-4 hours a week playing to relax on the weekend or watching BD/DVD. I have a Samsung 50" 1080P tv. I've tried remote play just for the gee-whiz factor and the streaming from the PC for the same reason.
Games I play:

R6 Vegas
F1

22 years old. But every time I play on the PS3, I feel 5 years younger.
I'm the only one to use the PS3 in my household and I do a lot of stuff on it. For one, it's a great video game machine and I do a lot of gaming on it. Second, it's my ultimate blu-ray playback machine. I only have a 32 inch Sony HDTV but it's a huge leap in terms of what I was use to back in the days. Lastly, I use it to stream a lot of movies I have on my computer. I watch a lot of anime stuff so it's freaking awesome when I can stream it to my PS3 and watch it on my HDTV instead of my computer monitor. My friends are amazed at what it can do. Good stuff!

I'm 17 years old and busy as hell. For the time being, I use it mostly to watch DVD's and BD's on a nightly basis. But, if I get home early enough, I usually game on it until I go to bed. Once football season is over, I'll have a lot more time for gaming so I'll have a better opportunity to complete the games I haven't beat yet.
I also store a whole bunch of media on it when I'm cleaning up my computer.

35 years old and married (no children).
I am using my PS3 mostly for gaming (either PS3, PS2) but use it once in a while for playing Blu-Ray movie (just not enough movie to see yet ;-)). I am also planning to use it as a development workstation once I install Linux on it and use it also as a media center (I would use the PS3 function but due to the lack of codecs, I dont want to reencode everything I download).
I'm 26, and from Miami, FL. I use my PS3 for everything it can do, LOL. Sometimes I listen to music on it, but rarely. I play plenty of games on it (recently Ratchet & Clank, Folklore, and Warhawk). I downloaded some games to my HDD also. I rarely download demos unless the game really interests me. I chat a lot with people on my buddylist and send them wallpapers (what up iToke?!:)) I like watching movies also, though I need to hurry up and expand my Bluray library, I have plenty of DVD's. I honestly am anticipating HOME and LBP. I'm almost sure those titles will be great and will start plenty of interaction amongst gamers. I personally can't wait to meet people with similiar interest as me in the gaming Lobbies. I love my PS3. It delivers visually and game wise. It's been keeping me busy since Nov 17, 2006 :)

I'm 26, I own a PS3, slim PS2, PSP, 360, Gamecube, and in the past have had an NES, SNES, Virtual Boy, Game Boy Advance, and a all prior models of the PS1 and an original ps2. I also own a really fast PC, but I haven't got the money for quality GPUs, so as of yet it's unfit for serious gaming.
I consider myself a hardcore gamer, playing anywhere from 3-6 hours a day in between my job and school, which is down from 8-14 hours a day back when I was an MMORPG addict. My gaming preferences are RPGs, FPS, Action/platform, fighting, and puzzle games. I abhor all sports titles and any racers without "Burnout" in their titles.
I own something like 3 normal DVDs, and one of them was a gift. I enjoy movies in theaters, but rarely watch them at home. I've never so much as rented a Blu-Ray, and I own a PS3 and an HDTV. To me, Blu-Ray exists solely for the purpose of enabling more game content on a single disc. I also don't use my PS3 (or PSP) as a multimedia device, opting instead to play music and videos through my PC or my iPod.

Forgot to post my use.
I use it mainly for gaming. I use basically efverything Sony intended to though. I mainly Ps3/PS2 game on it. That takes up about 70% together. It's only that huge because I do so much of it! :p Blu-Ray and DVD watching come about third - with about Videos coming next (ones that I encode for thee PS3 - tv shows etc).
Folding is the next, and then music and pictures are after. I hardly go on the internet, but I do when I do my net banking (as it's the safest most secure way - history is not so accessible).
I have YDL installed but haven't used it for a while though. Once I get a bigger HDD I'd use it more, and when/if I do learn how to use it properly without getting frustrated. :p
I'm 21 from Bronx, NY. I use my Playstation 3 mostly for video games. I do use it also for Blu-ray movies. I usually use the PS3 for games like 80% of the time.

I'm 22. I primarily use my PS3 to play games (PS2 included). I do, however, use the browser as well as stream music to the system from my PC and laptop as well. I'm not much of a movie person so I don't really take advantage of the PS3's BD/DVD movie playback ability.
i'm 26 as of 54 minutes ago. i use mine mostly for PS3 games, but my collection of blu-ray movies is slowly starting to grow. i do some folding, and save music to it to play on my home theater system. i've also been messing around a bit with the "Other OS" feature and fooling with ubuntu.

21, pretty much got my PS3 to replace my dead PS2, I do have some PS3 games and all but I wasn't really ready to move on to an inferior gaming system I just got it because I believe it has turned out cheaper to just get a PS3 then a replacement PS2 and THEN get a PS3 later when I consider it near the same league as the PS2 (The BC really helped obviously just hope I don't find a PS2 game that doesn't work)

20, and use it for pretty much everything.
Roommate has blockbuster's mail service, so that keeps a good supply of blu rays. I play the most games, but the only other gamer picks it up over his 360 once in awhile. Also use it for a stereo/photo viewer more often than I would've assumed I would. The browser sees some good use for showing youtube videos to people as well.
The only thing I don't seem to use it much for is ps2 games, even though I've got the 60gb. Maybe I just miss the rumble, so I just use the ps2 in my bedroom.

I'm pretty pleased with how this poll is progressing. If you haven't voted yet, or posted your uses for your PS3, please do so.
After reading all the posts, I decided to go learn how to stream content to my PS3, and now I'm happily streaming music, videos, and images, which is pretty darn cool.
Anyway, thanks to everyone that has taken part so far, and for those that haven't, please do take a moment to make a post.

I'll be 30 in a month, I only play games on my PS3.
age 20, don't have PS3 /x_x
but I am using ps2 for gaming and dvds obviously, so I would go to the next level with blu-ray, streaming, folding and...and hdtv by that time I guess.
Yeah, when that time comes, I can't wait for my room getting warmer
23, I use it for about 35% ps3 games, 35% ps2 games (had an xbox so i missed out on these) 15% blu rays movies (own about 9 or 10) 10% PSN games(yet i have an obsession buying way too many of them) and downloaded trailers, 5% music and internet browsing

40 and I use my PS3 about 80/20 between games (mostly PS2 titles lately) and movies (mostly BD rentals).
I also have a PSP so I use Remote Play sometimes to DL and install demos onto my PS3 at home while I am at work. That way the demos are waiting for me when I get home.
I also have the DLNA server stuff set up so I can stream from my PCs.
My favorite recent Sony toy is still my Location Free base station. With that I can remotely view and control my TiVo from any hotspot in the world. That rocks!
Wow, the poll results are a very nice bell curve.
I'm 26, I bought the PS3 50/50 games/media center. Although I probably use it more for games, I'd say now it's probably closer to 70/30 now :) All in all it's a great system. I've had it just over a month now and I'm very happy with it.
38 and use it mainly for BD movies and music (even though I never got the streaming to my Mac to work). I'll use it mostly for games though when more are out.

34 - Playing warhawk lately when I get the chance, using it for a BD movie once in awhile - love watching them, they look amazing, just don't have the time to sit and enjoy them as much.
Also using it for slide shows of the family, as it is great to see the kids in HD. Tons of family videos on it also.
Internet once in awhile
I love the convenience of the system and everything it does. Also looking forward to the great games down the pipe.

30 years old.
Use it for gaming and as the primary media player (Blur Ray, DVD, Photos, Music) through my TV
I'm 15 going on 16, please don't stalk me. That isn't the age I put in om PSN profile though, I have no intention of being restricted in what I can do on my very expensive console, I'm going to squeeze all the entertainment out of it I can get.
I only really play games on my PS3. If I had a HDTV then I might play Blu-Rays and I may put music on it if it wheren't so awkward to use (it won't copy my ATRACK music files).

I'm 31 years old. PS3 used for the following: (In order)
1) Blu-ray movies and DVD's.
2) Inernet browser.
3) Gaming.
This order will probably change when UT3 & Killzone 2 become available. I also have high hopes for Haze.

23yo.
Use it mainly for gaming but use it for BD movies every weekend.
I'm 28, and I have always intended to the use the PS3 for gaming.
I've explored the idea of using it as a media center but I don't like the interface of the XMB for that.
Theres a buddy of mine who got a PS3 the sametime I did, and he bought it as a Blu-Ray player only.
38 and mostly use mine for movies and some streaming. I've purchased several games, but I just can't seem to get into them.

I'm 22, today actually! Stuck at work though so I'm browsing the forums. May the partying come on Halloween :)
Anyways, we(my gf and I, she's 21 tomorrow :P) bought the PS3 a few months ago because we are both into video games and were huge PS2 fans. We each owned a Slim PS2 from when we didn't live together, so we figured we could buy a 60GB PS3, and sell the 2 slim's(sold one 2 days ago for $90 on Ebay), and that would bring the cost down.
But now that we have it, I'm about a week or two away from buying an HDTV, and looking forward to being able to play BR movies on it, as well as seeing the games in full HD :)
The PS3 is expensive, as well as a TV to go along with it when you're our age, but in the end it's probably worth it. Keeps us from going out every night and blowing $50 at a bar :P
13, bring in the good games baby. Games and Blu-Ray movies. I love sony.

I'm 35 & breathing, I think..?
Use it as a paper weight, good weight & my documents don't scatter. A great dust collector, better then Dust Buster. Use it as a mirror sometimes, it kinda hides my flaws. And as free weights, it gives a good workout. Gwahahaahahahahahahahaha!
I use it for:
- Movies, both Blue Ray & DVDs (Good upscaling)
- Games, only PS3 games & even bought Japanese titles just for the fun of it (Will use it more when the great games are out next year)
- Music transferred from my iPod, when I wanna feel psychedelic from watching the graphics (Didn't work...)
- Pictures in HD, use them as wallpaper in rotation (yes... I'm that bored with the machine for now...)
- Oh, and for making people who still have not own a PS3 GAWK & DROOL while looking at it (It's a great drool magnet!)
I think that's about it. Tee-Hee..!

Nobody has seen my PS3 yet, but I'm the only one I know who has one. 2 friends have a Wii, 1 has a 360. I use my PS3 about once or twice a week to play Warhawk or one of my PS2 games (I have work and then I take a class online, so that limits free time). I haven't watched many BD movies yet, but I just got my 5 free movies so I think that's going to happen in the near future.

I'm 22 year old new father, and fiance.
I use the my PS3 to mainly play games mostly PS3 but occasionaly PS2 games for RPG's
I always download the new trailers, and demos.
I have the PS3 hooked up to my computer as a Media Center which occasionally I ll play some Music when I'm cleaning or doing something where I can't watch the TV.
I still use my DVD player for DVD's because I dont have Blu-Ray movies because I dont have the moeny for an HD TV anyway so I dont see the point.
We are moderate income family (ok low moderate income) I think PS3 is across alot of ages, and uses I think that is what is cool about having a PS3 everyone uses it for different things. My fiances neighbors have one which the kids use it to play games (a big variety of games due to the ages ranging from 8 to 18) and the parents use it with their HD TV to watch Blu-Ray movies.

I also use folding @ Home occasionally but not too often.

17 going 18 in late November.
I often use the PS3 during any holiday, and when I do use it, I strike a fairly good balance between games, music, Blu-Ray movies and photos. I also use Linux less often but still enough to do something productive every now and then.
Then again, this balance could change if I end up getting my hands on some or all of the must-have PS3 games to come/are already here.

Thanks, I'm glad you like it. I've found it quite fascinating so far; that said, I'd have preferred it if I weren't in a minority 'older' group. Man, I feel pretty ancient now!
;)
I'm particularly surprised at the strength of the bell curve; I was expecting the results to be a little more broadly spread and less neat. And it's really good to see how everyone uses their PS3s. Personally, I see mine playing Uncharted an awful lot very soon.
:D
Man, I feel pretty ancient now!:D
Don't worry, you're not the only one !

I totally understand how you feel. I'm 32 in a few months, and that seems pretty old to me. I remember when I thought 20 was really old, and it doesn't seem all that long ago...
:)
Anyway, the results look really good so far. Anyone else?
Sometimes I feel like I'm too old to be on a forum talking about freakin video games...but I'm pretty glad to see that my age group (21-25) is the most common here. There's even a big chunk in the older groups. That makes me feel like less of a nerd
I actually don't own any blu-ray movies yet, I've only rented them. I'm not poor, but I don't have enough money to buy such expensive movies when I was never really into buying movies before. It's all about the games for me, which I do buy and never rent.
I'm just glad there are people in the 50:s using it. That makes another decade with consoles possible for me. :D

Totally! That said, I'll be gaming until the day I die -- so, if I make it, I'll see you all on whatever form online communities take in 40 years, when I'm in my 70s.
I may be a wrinkled old chappy by that time, but if Solid Snake can do it, so can I.

I'm 31 and use my PS3 about 70% video games 30% DVDs/Blu Ray. Actually, I recently removed my dedicated DVD player from my setup to get rid of some cables. Originally I used the PS3 to upconvert my old PS2 games and play some Katamari Damacy in antcipation of Beautiful Katamari. Now I use it for skate. I mean, I want to play other games, but I lack the willpower to take the skate disc out of the PS3.
