Xbox 360 - $218 million
PlayStation 2 - $73 million
Nintendo Wii - $59 million
Nintendo DS - $47 million
PlayStation Portable - $21 million
PlayStation 3 - $17 million
Fascinatingly, the company also provided numbers on the distribution of its software sales by platform in the 3 months ending September 30th, comparing it to the previous year.
Obviously, the company's mix depends to a certain extent on what major titles were released in that quarter, but some obvious next-gen trends were evident. Firstly, the revenue total in the 3 months to September 30th for the Xbox 360 was $218 million, up significantly from $166 million the previous year.
In addition, new line items were established for the Wii, which had $59 million of Electronic Arts games sold for it in the quarter to September 2007, and the PlayStation 3, which had just $17 million of revenue booked.
One notable change was for the PlayStation 2, which saw $73 million in game sales this quarter, compared with a massive $269 million in the previous year. Finally, the DS' game sales also surged, up from $14 million in 2006 to $47 million in 2007 - but the PSP's plummeted, down from $64 million in 2006 to $21 million in 2007.

thats quite a contrast, i'm surprised the X360 profits are that far ahead of the PS2.

thats crazy that the 360's combined software for ea was more than the rest combined. 217 million(all combined) 218 (360)
I'm not that surprised, most of the sales probably came from Madden, and Madden was def. much better on the 360 then any other console.

I see why they cater to the xbox. maybe if they focused on other consoles maybe they'll sell better thqan they are doing now

Other games like Command and Conquer, Harry Potter, Medal of Honour and skate equate to their sales as well as all their sports titles.
Soon The simpsons game & NFS pro street will too

Maybe, if the PS3 sold more or the PS3 owners bought more games, then EA could focus more on the PS3. The whole chicken and the egg thing.
Just to put it in context, the Xbox revenue in this period is 12 million $.
The Wii revenue is also pretty good considering that EA is 3rd party.

it defo looks like some ps2 owners have moved on, and id say that theyve got 360's. These figures are insane. the 360 is hands down the leading gaming platform this gen. For how long i dont know, but it defo is now, big time too.

Casual PS2 owners who were the main consumers for EA products seemed to have moved to the 360 this year. But the Wii is still dominating hardware and 1st party sales wise around the world. The 360 is just the 3rd party king, which is probably the most important feature that most games devs. care about.

Fantastic this will certainly help the PS3 get games.
Maybe SONY fans just have a thing against EA? I do, but thats for personal reasons...
Their quality in the PS3 gasmes really show in sales, simply .. their games suck ass on the PS3.

Wow...360 owners really like buying those games, i wonder if its also takes into account games that have been out for a while and are reduced in price, i know I'm a big buyer of older games that are on sale.
Yeah i know, I'm a Scot, I'm a tight fisted swine.....
Still amazing figures.

Was that sarcasm, how will such utter poor numbers help the PS3 get games?

the 1st year 360 sales were also exceptionaly high compared to ps3 now, probably a month or so different but still.
Notable also the financial loss that would have been made if they'd done a ps3 exclusive given the costs involved.
Perhaps there is a bit of chicken and egg going on here (EA dont optomise for ps3 because they wont make cash back so games such and no one buys them).
Wii sales also strong though given the low attach rate for the console, Nintys dominance etc....
Big fall in ps2 number and rise in 360 probably shows where the US is moving to.
any one got figures for any other publisher?

Thats crazy for it to be so high, i like football and 2k baseball but i know EA games are horrible so i dont buy anything from them unless they only publish it like spore but i dont even have a pc for that...

Nintendo Wii - $59 million
Nintendo DS - $47 million

wow **** man.
xbox360 main platform confirmed
Wow!
I knew the 360 fanbase was buying a lot of software but more than 50% of the biggest software creator? That's insane.
Judging by these numbers, it seems that people with more than one new console is buying the 360 version of EA Games. The difference is just too big.

Clearly this is only EA, EA alone does not controll the video game market.
Isn't this the same EA that is releasing 'Spore' exclusivly on the Wii?
It's way too early for such outrageous comments.
PS2 has 2,000 + games verses X-box's 800 games not because of EA.

Please calm down, it was a question, not a statement.
We all know the PS2's success is due to excellent 3rd party support. With the 360 achieving more sales from the biggest 3rd party dev than the rest of the consoles combined I was just questioning whether the 360 is heading in that direction.

Those are very impressive numbers, a very healthy indicator that the videogames industry grows every year which is a very good thing.
The Xbox 360 seems to be the version to choose for multiplatform games, a lot of people may criticize EA and say they games are very bad, but this figures can't be ignored, specially for the devs when they decide which platform to develop exclusively or as the main SKU.
Is the 360 turning into the new PS2? I wonder.
It's too early to tell, but if this trend continues until Xmas 2008, it could be true.
Cheers.
good job MS, impressive number.

Build quality the ps3 is the rolls royce of consoles.
But the 360 could end up the peoples console like the ps2.
If the devs continue to support the 360 as they have been doing that is what will happen.
Its the games that sell consoles nothing else.
I see the 360 is even starting to sell better in japan.

I'm not sure about First Party games. Remember that Wii Sports is being bundled with every console, other than that, Microsoft is by far, the biggest 1st and the Xbox 360, the 3rd party software seller.

When third party developers keep feeding us crap, you bet your *** off sales will be lackluster. EA royally screwed over the PS3 userbase with Madden '08; it was a piss poor port and they used that weak PR line about not having enough time with hardware.
I'm not surprised by the figures, though; with the amount of favoritism they've shown torwards the 360, why should anyone be surprised?
I believe Xbox Live could be playing a major role on this one too. I mean, even if the PS3 version was equal, why would they buy it when your pals have a Xbox 360? A big factor to consider taking in account how important is online for sport games.

I haven't purchased a single EA game this generation in a store. Every EA game I purchased (NHL 07, NFSMW, NCAA 07) was from ebay months after it was first released establishments.

nobody will get anywhere without support from EA, hoever crappy their titles, that company alone with its sports titles commands a high market value

Wow. The Xbox 360 may very well become the PS2 of this generation. Lots of third party support (more than all other consoles combined from the largest third party developer).
EA loves the 360, as far as they make them money they'll love it. Moore, Moore where are you?.... :)

But thats the point isn't it.EA usually NEVER does exclusives(Mass effect is published by MS)And Moore himself said no more half arse ports for the ps3.I guess we will see if the 50%+ sales would change EA mind about Mass Effect(probably will).I for one don't want Mass effect to go exclusive it'd be like MGS4 being multi platform, crap for both consoles.Only time will tell eh?;)

Roses & Choclates? I don't fully understand you post.
he was talking about ratchet sales being lower then expected for a "quality" ps3 game
what would that make the ps3?
The old xbox... It may be hard for some to admit, but it does seem MS learned from last gen and pulled a fast one on Sony. MS had the better software last gen, but they came in late and could never get developers truly interested in its console because of that.
This time around, with early consumer base AND easier development (basically PC port) MS is stopping Sony from truly developing a significant user base/developer support...
