Posting in the correct forum

Over recent months it has become evident that people are abusing the popularty of the main PS3 Discussion forum by posting off-topic threads, safe in the assumption that at best it will get more attention, and at worst, moved to the correct forum. This assumption is no longer acceptable.

While moderators and SMC have a duty to maintain these forums to the best of their ability, the number of off-topic threads being created in this particular area has reached ridiculous numbers. Moving the odd thread that has been created by accident by a new member is one thing. Regular members posting "What HDTV would you recommend for my PS3?" is quite another.

From now on, for an off-topic thread, the advice to moderators and SMC is going to be, "Delete or move at your discretion". By soft-deleting, existing posts in the thread are maintained, but members will no longer be able to post in it. If people wish to continue the discussion, a new thread should be created in the correct forum. If members continue to post threads in the wrong forum, infractions will be given, ultimately leading to bans.

So, what constitutes an off-topic thread in this case? Simple - anything that does not relate directly to PS3. This includes:

- HDTV discussions
- 1080p vs 720p
- Blu-ray movies
- Using SIXAXIS on the PC
- Using monitors with PS3
- Best cables to use with PS3
- Video settings
- Games discussions (has its own sub-forum)

These seem to be the biggest culprits, and most of those belong in the technology forum. While this focusses on the PS3 discussion forum, the same basic logic aplies to all other forums. Just be more considerate when posting threads and think about where they belong. If in doubt, ask one of the moderators or SMC.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Credits go to Graham for writing this great idea of ours. ^_^

Another thing to note:
Please use the "Ask a Question" sticky in the PS3 discussion area. This is in order to not make threads with repeated questions one can easily find an answer to there.
